AutoLab v1.1a released

A new build of the AutoLab is available, this is mainly a bug fix release but there is a headline feature:

vCloud Director v5.1 is now included in the AutoLab.

You can download from the usual page in all the usual formats and as always I’ve tried to resolve the top issues I see on the forums.

One other new thing is that the deployment guide is now available as an eBook, already available on Amazon and it should also turn up on other major eBook marketplaces over the next few days, simply search for “vSphere 5 AutoLab 1.1a Deployment Guide”. Amazon wouldn’t let me publish the guide for free, so it will cost you 99 US cents. The deployment guide is also available as a PDF from the download page at no cost.

In the near future I will be publishing some actual Lab Guides! The first ones will be for people who have attended the vSphere 5 Install Configure Manage courses and want to use the AutoLab to repeat the course labs.  I also plan on some guidance on labs to help you prep for VCP5 and VCAP5-DCA exams, although those are a little further away.

I’m not able to download it (yet) in the standard place, after registering it open the menu instead of the download links

    • Dang, I broke the download page. I’ll get ask Nick to fix up after me.

  • tivoli

Solved now ;-) thanks both of you

  • Keep up the good work Alastair :)

  • Attempting to run the AutoLab on VMWare Workstation 9. I get the following error: The import failed because C:\Users\Gary\Desktop\VCP\vSphere5AutoLab_vSphere_v1_1a\AutoLab.ovf did not pass OVF specification conformance or virtual hardware compliance checks.

Any help would be spectacular. Thank you.

    • The ova file for the 1.1a build is broken, as is my master copy.
You can either use the ovf or use the 1.1 ova.

Hi, I have the latest MacBook Pro Retina with 8GB RAM, 256 SSD and 3.0Ghz Dual-Core i7 with OSX 10.8.3 and vmware Fusion 5 Professional installed. How could i utilize the AutoLab for Workstation 8 onto the Fusion? Any Fusion 5 guide/tips/tutorials?

    Grateful for your support.

    • The deployment guide has instructions on using Fusion for the AutoLab.
If you have any problems head over to the forums on this site.

Stumbled across this site.. I’d like to prep for VCP5 but what exactly is this AutoLab thing? Does it allow to test with vmware view for end user deployment?

    • AutoLab started fairly simple, a vSphere test and training environment using nested virtualization, the basics are outlined in this article.
Over time vCloud, View and Veeam products have been added to the AutoLab.
The best thing to do is to go to the main AutoLab page and start downloading, have a read of the deployment guide to see what you need and what you can do.
For another perspective there’s a nice post here and another deployment option in this post.
